Dorothy DiBernard

Dorothy DiBernard, 86, died at home on January 30, 2010.  She was born in Flanders and resided in Ledgewood for 45 years.  She is survived by her twins, Michael of Ledgewood and Darleen of Flanders, her son Thomas and his wife, Kathleen, of Mooresville, NC. Thomas has three sons: Thomas, Joseph and Jonathan and Michael's children are Michael, Jarrett and Austin. Her brother, Louis Roberts, now resides in Wake Forest, NC and her sister, Lorraine Denmead is in Easton, PA. Dorothy also has many nieces and nephews living in several different states. Dottie was predeceased by her husband, Carmine. He was a former employee of Suffern Tri-County Distributors and then High Grade Beverage. Before becoming a full time homemaker and mother, Dottie worked as a nurse at Overlook Hospital after completion of her R.N. training there. She was then employed by Dr. Burn in Newton. She substituted as a school nurse at the Netcong elementary school. During her short stay in a nursing facility, her love of nursing came through and she was often seen trying to help the other residents there. Dottie acted as a 4-H leader, teaching young girls how to cook. As a former member of the Flanders Methodist Church, she occasionally donated her time at the church's thrift shop. She and her husband were longtime members of the Roxbury Senior Citizens Group and Dottie always enjoyed their many meetings, trips and dinners.  Dottie liked attending the Historical Society Meetings in Mt. Olive and Roxbury and was able provide them with photos of her family from generations past. The arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Taylor-Ruggiero Funeral Home in Dover, NJ. Memorial contributions can be sent to the family members and will be used to place a new commemorative bench on Memory Lane at Horseshoe Lake in Succasunna. The bench will be dedicated in memory of Carmine and Dorothy. Remaining funds will be donated to Roxbury Social Services to thank them for their kindness.
