William E. Ward Sr.

Ward, William E. Sr. age 75 of Roxbury Twp., NJ died Monday February 4th, 2008 at the St. Clare’s Hospital Denville Campus. Born in Lower Berkshire Valley, he has been a lifelong resident of Roxbury Twp.Son of the late James E. and Myrtle (Lecher) Ward, William had served in the US Army during the Korean War. He had worked as a Telephone Repair Technician for Piccatinney Arsenal until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Ward was a member and Past Chief of the Roxbury Twp. Fire Department for fifty two years, as well as a member of the Berkshire Valley Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Morris County Past Chief’s Association as well as a life member of the Relief Association.  A life member of the Kenvil VFW he was also a member of the Knee Deep Fishing Club of Lake Hopatcong, and a life member of the NRA.

Mr. Ward was pre deceased by his son William E. Jr. in 2006, and is survived by his Wife Neva M. Ward. Also surviving are his son David J. and his wife Dawn Ward of Succasunna. His Brothers John T. and his wife Darlene of Lower Berkshire Valley, and James E. and his wife Susan Ward of  Starrucca, PA. Also surviving are his Grandchildren William III and his fiancée Jennifer B. Lorenzo, Michelle A. Ward and fiancée Brian Yannotta, David “DJ”, Courtney, and Matthew Ward. Also his Jack Russell Terrier “Bucky”. Mr. Ward will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 9th at 10:00 AM in the SMITH-TAYLOR-RUGGIERO Funeral Home 1 Baker Ave. Dover, NJ. Visitation will be held Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM, with VFW services at 7PM and Fireman’s services at  8PM. In lieu of flowers memorials in William’s name to the Roxbury Fire Co. #3 #271 Berkshire Valley Rd. Wharton, NJ 07885.

To Mrs. Ward and Family: Iâ??m very sorry for your loss. I have a lot of fond memories of Bill. I worked with Bill at Picatinny and lived in Lake Hopatcong. We use to ice fish together all the time. He was a wonderful person and a very special friend to me. I mover out of the area in 1985 but Iâ??ll always remember all the special times we spent together.
